When Marco was a young teen, he was fascinated with making home records and his four-track recorder. While in High School, he performed in various rock and experimental bands, and he attended Berklee College of Music in 1999. Shortly after graduation, Benevento got involved with the Jazz Farmers and created his own band named the Benevento Russo Duo. He released his first studio album as a pianist, Invisible Baby, which was released in 2008. His first studio album was nominated for Independent Music Award Jazz Album of the year. Marco released three more albums by 2012 in which he played acoustic piano in all his recordings to spice up his music for his fans. 

Marco Benevento and the Benevento Russo duo performed everywhere from Carnegie Hall, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Pickathon Music Festival, and the Newport Jazz Festival. Benevento and Joe Russo also performed at Austin City Limits, High Sierra Music Festival, and Fuji Rock Festival. The duo augmented their sound by using loops, circuit-bent toys, and guitars. In 2009, Marco created his own record label that was named The Royal Potato Family. Artists on this record label included Billy Martin, Lukas Nelson, and Neal Casal.
