The group is known for its piano-heavy instrumentals that feature unorthodox sounds including those of pots and pans, fireworks and Chinese funeral horns. The members, adopting enigmatic stage names, are Cheesy Ten Sack, Eggs Foster, Mature Kevin, Jazz Diesel and Honus Honus.
Man Man came together in Philadelphia in 2003, releasing its debut album The Man in a Blue Turban with a Face through Ace Fu Records the following year. The band rose to national attention when in 2007 it opened for Modest Mouse on an extensive US tour. Man Man’s song “10 lb Mustache” was used in Nike commercials and on Weeds, further increasing the band’s exposure.
Following the 2008 release of Man Man’s Rabbit Habits, the band began performing at prominent music festivals across the country including the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, the Voodoo Experience Festival and the Primavera Sound Festival. Man Man is also a longtime collaborator with the indie-rock supergroup Mister Heavenly. Man Man’s songs have seen frequent use in video games in particular, most notably in Cyberpunk 2077.
