The singer added personality to The Dimensions, featuring members Fred Tatman, Larry Hatch and Kerry Yates. 

Her professional music career began years later, in 1968. After auditioning for a slot in Cold Blood at Janis Joplin’s recommendation, Lydia Pense signed with Fillmore Records, owned by promoter Bill Graham. Pense recorded with the group until its hiatus in the mid-1970s. Pense took this time to raise her young daughter and re-formed the band years later. Cold Blood continues to write, produce, record music and perform live. 

The soul singer is associated with Fillmore Records, ABC Records, Dig Music and Warner Brothers Records. She explores rock, urban contemporary and blue-eyed soul music. Pense takes inspiration from the music of Brenda Lee but also credits James Brown, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino and Ray Charles, among others. Critics often compare Pense’s swagger to that of Aretha Franklin.
