The band was originally called Las Caminantes Aztecas and was formed in San Bernadino, California by Agustin and his two brothers Horacio and Bernardo in the mid-1970s. Though the group continues to tour throughout the United States, Mexico and Central America, they now call San Francisco del Rincon, Guanajuato home.
Grupera is a type of regional Mexican music and reached the height of its popularity in the mid-1990a. It has its roots in groups of Mexican rock bands doing covers of popular English rock songs. As the Grupera genre rose in popularity, Los Caminantes began to see more success and released their debut album in 1983 with “Super Perder” with Luna Records. It included the hits “Super Perder,” “Para Que Quieres Volver” and “Dime Si Me Quieres.”

The group released several albums throughout the mid-1980s to mid-1990s and several of them were on the Billboard charts including “De Guanajato…Para America.” A disc jockey gave them their nickname of “Los chulos, chulos, chulos” around then. In 1990, the group filmed a movie called “Caminantes…Si Hay Caminos.”
The group has now recorded over thirty albums and is very well known for playing a variety of regional styles, including Ranchera, Cumbia and Mariachi. They are also well known for collaborating with high-profile regional acts such as Diana Reyes, Banda Pachuco and Polo Urias y Su Maquina Nortena.
