The members include Marta Aznavoorian, Desiree Ruhstrat and David Cunliffe. The ensemble's name was inspired by the home state of two of the players being Illinois, the home of Abraham Lincoln.
The Lincoln Trio was formed at the Music Institute of Chicago and has performed at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Le Poisson Rouge and Alice Tully Hall in New York. They have made appearances in Europe and South America and have toured Asia. They performed in Springfield, Ill., in 2009 at the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial, with Barack Obama in attendance as part of the Ravina Festival.

The CD featured compositions by women such as Lera Auerbach, Augusta Read Thomas and Stacy Garrop and received glowing reviews. Trios From the City of Big Shoulders, featuring songs from Chicago composers, is another well-received album the trio has released.
