Hiatt was born in Los Angeles to Grammy-nominated blues artist John Hiatt. She was raised predominantly in Nashville however, on a small farm which she credits as the source of her love for country music. She learned to play guitar at twelve years old and joined her first band Shake Go Home while still in college. The group released several EPs before Hiatt began recording music with a band of her own creation, Lilly Hiatt and the Dropped Ponies. Her debut album Let Down was released in 2012.

Hiatt released her next album, Royal Blue, through New West Records. The album saw Hiatt expand her musical repertoire, bending genres by incorporating synthesizer elements into an otherwise folk/country style. She was one of the musicians asked to record a contribution as part of Willie Nelson’s Luck Family Foundation release. Hiatt then put out Trinity Lane in 2017, featuring collaborations with Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst. With Lilly Hiatt tickets you can see this innovative country-rocker live.
