West was raised in London and moved to Los Angeles, CA as a teen. She relocated to Chicago where she attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. There, West became involved with the city’s underground music scene. The earthy songstress with platinum blonde hair didn’t create original music until her college years.

In 2016, after purchasing a guitar from Craigslist, West self-released her debut album Sleepyhead under the artist name Lala Lala. Stereogum, a daily Internet publication focusing on music news, reviews, interviews and commentaries, honored Lala Lala with a prestigious Band to Watch title shortly after the group’s sophomore release, The Lamb in 2018. The Lamb was also met with favorable reviews by other publications, among them Pitchfork, another online publication.

In a review by music industry journalist Steven Arroyo, he articulated, “On her second album, Lillie West retains the charming simplicity of her songs, but she finds new depth as a songwriter as she explores the act of standing up to herself.”

Additionally, Lala Lala has collaborated with Yoni Wolf, frontman of the American band, WHY? The collaboration was covered in The Fader, music, style and culture magazine based in New York City. The collaboration was also reviewed by other music outlets. The group has been on a nationwide tour opening for Conor Oberst and Phoebe Bridge’s duo, Better Oblivion Community Center.
