She has toured frequently alongside Alicia Keys and Missy Elliott in particular and is well-known for her work with her jazz band Soul Squad. 

Born and raised in Washington Heights, Benjamin developed an interest in the saxophone by listening to merengue and salsa music common in her Dominican neighborhood. She began writing her own songs at age 13, going on to study jazz at The New School. After graduation, Benjamin was mentored by saxophonist Gary Bartz, who helped her master the sophisticated technique for which she would become famous. 

The artist then performed alongside Clark Terry in his jazz band Young Titans of Jazz. With the group, she toured alongside the likes of Anita Baker, Harry Belafonte and the Count Basie Orchestra. Her prodigious talent soon saw her invited to perform at the 2009 inauguration of President Barack Obama. She has since toured on the international stage.
