The festival lasts about a month, with all plays broken up into two-week staging periods. Four plays go for two weeks, then a different four plays go for another two weeks. The LaBute festival has staged one-act plays annually for 8 years so far.
All plays put on during this festival are one-act in length and brand new. Each of the plays will last about 45 minutes, have no more than four characters, and will have minimal sets. The artistic directors and executive board choose up to eight plays from among the submission. The playwrights come from all degrees of professionality and all walks of life.
