Originally from Wisconsin, he first learned piano at a young age from his mother. Later, Bestor moved to Utah and learned how to play trumpet. In 1977, Kurt Bestor and his family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which took them on a mission trip to Yugoslavia. What he witnessed on that trip would inspire his most famous song, “Prayer of the Children.”

Kurt Bestor’s full-time music career began in the 1980s where he performed for various TV shows, specials and early productions of the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon. He composed many commercial jingles and won an Emmy for his coverage of the 1988 Winter Olympics. Because of that Emmy, Bestor signed with a record label and produced his first Christmas album. From 1988 to 2020, Kurt Bestor produced 19 albums, seven of which were Christmas albums.
