The group has undergone numerous personnel changes over the years, with only Järvelä and drummer Samu Ruotsalainen remaining from the original line-up. The band's sound relies heavily on Järvelä's distinctive 'yoiking' vocals, a style that originates from traditional Finnish native Sámic music.
Korpiklaani is unusual within the folk metal genre in that they started out as a folk group that later adopted metal as a component of their music. The band has released 13 studio albums, many of which feature Finnish language lyrics. They released the album 'Noita" in 2015. It was followed by 'Kulkija' in 2018. They released the studio album 'Jylha' in 2021. The band has had many changes over the years with former members numbering over 25.
