The band formed in Denver in 2012 with a vision of playing a heavier and more distorted style of heavy metal music. They take their name from an ancient Egyptian city.
Khemmis released their debut album Absolution in 2015, which received widespread critical acclaim. Khemmis’ follow-up album Hunted cemented the group as one of the leading artists in the budding doom metal genre, as Hunted was listed on both Rolling Stone and Decibel magazine’s Top Metal Albums of the Year list.
In 2017 Khemmis were signed to the prestigious hard rock label Nuclear Blast, through which they released their album Desolation the following year. Desolation was listed on Decibel and Consequence of Sound magazines’ Top Twenty Albums of the Year. The band soon toured with several high-profile metal groups including Enslaved, Wolves in the Throne Room and Myrkur.
