Though his father was a doctor and his mother an academic, Edusei’s family had musical roots—his grandmother was a noted opera singer with the Theater Bielefeld. Edusei learned both piano and percussion as a boy, and while a teenager performed with Ostwestfalen-Lippe’s youth orchestra. He went on to study music at the Berlin University of the Arts and then the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague under famed conductor Jac van Steen.
In 2004 Edusei was awarded a conducting scholarship from the Aspen Music Festival, where he was mentored by David Zinman. He was one of only a small handful of students to be granted entry into the 2007 Lucerne Festival Academy conducting class, where he was taught by composers Pierre Boulez and Peter Eotvos. The following year Edusei won first place for conducting at the Dimitri Mitropoulos International Music Competition.
Edusei was both First Bandleader and Deputy General Music Director of the Theater Bielefeld in the early 2000s and went on to serve as First Bandleader of the Theater Augsburg beginning in 2007.
