Mattea was discovered by producer/writer Byron Hill who signed her to Mercury Records in 1983. She released her debut album, Kathy Mattea, a year later. The album had hit singles like “Street Talk” and “Someone is Falling in Love.” Her second album, From My Heart, was released in 1985. Success came when she released Walk the Way The Wind Blows in 1986. Top 10 charting singles from the album included “You’re The Power” and “Train Of Memories.”
She went on to release gold-certified albums like Untasted Honey, Time Passes By and Lonesome Standard Time. Her work has been recognized with 2 Grammy Awards, including Best Female Country Vocal Performance for “Where’ve You Been” and Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album for Good News.
