He is known primarily for his work as the frontman of the popular bluegrass band Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice, though has also enjoyed success as a solo artist.
Born in Ferrum in 1972, Sisk learned to play the guitar at an early age. By his teenage years, he had mastered the banjo and mandolin as well and begun writing his first songs. As a young man, Sisk started his professional music career as a member of the bluegrass band Wyatt Rice & Santa Cruz. In the mid-to-late 90s, he joined the band Blueridge as well, and enjoyed regional success with both groups before founding Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice in 1998.
With Ramblers Choice, Sisk rose to fame for establishing a distinctive style of bluegrass music that involves hard-hitting riffs mixed with soaring vocals. In both 2013 and 2014, the artist received the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Award for Male Vocalist of the Year.
