Julien-K might not have existed if it wasn’t for creative differences between the members of the band Orgy. After the band’s third album Ryan Shuck (vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboards) and Amir Derakh (lead guitar, samples, keyboards, synthesizer, bass) began working on the side project with help from Elias “Bones” Rodriguez (drums) and Brandon Belsky (keyboards). The band began producing music out of Long Beach, California in 2003 releasing songs like “Kick the Bass” and “Technical Difficulties” which can be heard in the 2007 Michael Bay directed Transformers. In 2009 the group released their debut album entitled Death to Analog which also featured multiple songs found in other media like “This Machine” and “Waking Up”. Julien-K is named after the character Julian Kaye in the movie American Gigolo played by Richard Gere.
With a sound that has permeated across culture, Julien-K tickets offer some of the most layered music in modern rock. Delving into industrial metal, electronic rock, post-punk, and more, Julien-K is an amalgam that’s next direction remains unpredictable. Songs like “Killing Fields” helped lead to their second album We’re Here With You released in January of 2012. Julien-K was more ambitious with their third album Analog Beaches & Digital Cities, a two-chapter double album. The band took it to another level with their fourth release containing 64 tracks across four discs including a collection of the band’s unreleased material entitled Time Capsule: A Future Retrospective.
