JP Soars was born John Paul Soars in Anaheim, California, and is a blues singer, guitarist, songwriter, and record producer.  In 2021, the Blues Music Awards honored him with a nomination for Contemporary Blues Male Artist as well as Blues Rock Artist of the Year. In 2009, he won the International Blues Challenge.

Soars started playing in heavy metal bands. He was with Raped Ape for eight years. In 1996, he joined the band Malevolent Creation and recorded In Cold Blood.  In 2007, he was playing guitar for the band backing up David Shelley in the International Blues Challenge. Those memories stayed with him and by 2009, he had formed JP Soars and the Red Hots and entered the competition himself. In 2019, JP Soars and The Red Hots released Let Go of the Reins.
