Soars started playing in heavy metal bands. He was with Raped Ape for eight years. In 1996, he joined the band Malevolent Creation and recorded In Cold Blood. Those memories stayed with him and by 2009, he had formed JP Soars and the Red Hots and entered the competition himself. In 2019, JP Soars and The Red Hots released Let Go of the Reins.
