He was born on January 18, 1945. He has always had a passion for music and instruments, even when he was small. At the age of six, he learned to play the lute. At the age of 16, he studied to be an electrical technician on a scholarship at the Universidad Laboral in Sevilla. Even in university, Jose knew that music was going to be a big part of his life, no matter where his life led him. After he finished university, he moved to Madrid and was able to continue his interest in music.
He originally started in the music industry as a composer. At the encouragement of his mother, Perales sang at some local festivals in his hometown. It was not until he met Rafael Trabucchelli, who was an influential Italian music composer in Spain at that time, that his musical career took a big turn. It was discovered that Perales was a talented, but reluctant, singer. After much encouragement by Trabucchelli and his supporters, Perales decided to give singing a try. His first record, “Celos de mi Guitarra” (Jealous of my Guitar), was a huge success in both Spain and Latin America.
