His first seven albums were released through Atlantic Records and the other three were released through Warner Bros. His first album with Warner Bros was named Pictures, and his last album was Letters From Home. Montgomery performed the National Anthem at the NASCAR event, Golden Corral 500, but after an off performance, he was diagnosed with acoustic neuroma. He recovered from this diagnosis and continued with his career. In 2008, Montgomery founded his own label named Stringtown Records.
