The core of the band's sound has always come from John Butler with his dynamic voice steering the group through many different genres including alternative rock, bluegrass, reggae, and blues-rock. In 2001 the band's second album Three reached the top 30 of Australian album charts. The next three JBT albums would also reach platinum sales along with a few of their live albums recorded along the way.
After their 2007 release of Grand National, the band slipped into international fame with tours in Europe and America including an appearance at Lollapalooza. Their follow up album April Uprising debuted at #1 on the Australian ARIA albums chart and continued to help cement them as one of the most well known Australian bands of all time. From performances on late-night talk shows like Conan to producing a rock cover of Pharrell Williams song “Happy” John Butler Trio is best known for setting a high bar for roots-rock music.
