Throughout the years Hoekstra has played with several bands but regularly tours with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra as has more recently been part of the band Whitesnake. He began his musical journey at a young age, growing up playing cello and piano. In 2001, Joel Hoekstra moved to New York City to pursue music full time. Joel Hoekstra has performed with Night Ranger, Whitesnake, Cher, and was the lead guitarist for the Broadway musical, Rock of Ages. Following his Broadway performance, he made a cameo appearance on the movie adaptation of Rock of Ages along with Sebastian Bach, Debbie Gibson, and several other musicians.
Over the years, Joel Hoekstra has released several solo albums and has a long list of guest appearances. In addition to his career musical work, Hoekstra has contributed articles to Guitar World magazine and released an instructional guitar master class DVD. He also has served at the Rock N’ Roll Fantast Camp with Vinnie Appice, Steven Adler, Gregg Bissonette, and others.
