Known in the salsa scene as “El Trombón Criollo,” Jimmy Bosch (October 18, 1959) is an American trombonist and bandleader of Puerto Rican descent. Throughout his career, he’s recorded with some of the biggest names in Latin music, such as Rubén Blades, Marc Anthony, Eddie Palmieri, and Celia Cruz. A New Jersey native, Bosch took his first steps with the trombone in school at age eleven. By the time he was thirteen, he was already playing in several local Latin bands such as Arco Iris, La Caliente, and La Sonica.
He joined Manny Oquendo’s Conjunto Libre while studying classical music at Rutgers University in the late 70s, and then went on to work with percussionist Ray Barretto and tour with bassist Israel Cachao. He made his debut as bandleader in 1998 with Soneando Trombón, which featured legendary Cuban trumpeter Chocolate Armenteros and singer Pete Rodríguez.
Bosch followed up with Salsa Dura in 1999, El Avión De La Salsa in 2004, and ¡A Millón! In 2009. In subsequent years, Bosch released a handful of standalone singles such as “Colores del Baile Latino!” (2018), “Palabras Volando” (2019), and “Tano Kiseki Chan” (2020).
