Born in La Habra, California in 1942, Parker began learning guitar as a teenager, forming his first band The Illusions at nineteen years old. They released a handful of singles through the 60s before Parker joined the rock band Them in 1970. By the mid-70s Parker had taken a turn toward country music, performing with the Dave & Sugar country-rock trio in the early 80s. His greatest accomplishments as a songwriter are the singles “I’ve Got A Feelin’” and “Bigger Hands,” which won an ASCAP songwriting award and reached the top of the Billboard Country Albums chart, respectively.
