As a teenager, Mayfield self-released her debut album White Lies. The album caught the attention of Black Keys member Dan Auerbach, who offered to produce her first studio album. The result, With Blasphemy So Heartfelt, was released in 2008 and featured Auerbach on a number of different instruments. The album met with rave reviews, and Mayfield earned multiple Best New Artist awards from a slew of publications. Several songs were used in television on shows like Gossip Girl and CSI: NY.
Mayfield has been widely praised for her unadorned sound and haunting, minimalist style. In 2007 she became the first artist to provide guest vocals for a Black Keys album and has since toured widely with similar artists including The Avett Brothers, Cake and Ray LaMontagne.
