Jesse Colin Young is the stage name for Perry Miller, a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist known for his work as the lead singer of the 60s rock band Youngbloods. Born in Queens, NY in 1941 to a musical family, Miller learned to play piano at an early age. He then studied classical guitar at Phillips Academy, then at New York University as a young man. While in college he began performing in and around Greenwich Village, taking the stage name Jesse Colin Young for the first time.
Miller formed the Youngbloods with friend and fellow musician Jerry Corbitt in the mid-60s, and they released their eponymous debut album through RCA Records in 1967. The album contained the internationally successful hit song “Get Together,” which catapulted the group to fame overnight.
Following the band’s breakup in 1972, Miller set off on a solo career. He garnered significant acclaim for his album Song for Juli in particular, which stayed on the Billboard 200 for nearly a year.
