Mohr got his break in 1992, hosting the lip-sync contest game show Lip Service on MTV. He also was featured on Saturday Night Live, for two seasons, from 1993 to 1995.
Jay appeared as a recurring character on The Jeff Foxworthy Show as his brother Wayne in its first season. In 1996, he landed the role of sleazy sports agent Bob Sugar in the Tom Cruise vehicle Jerry McGuire. He then starred alongside Jennifer Anniston in Pitch Perfect one year later, in 1997.
