When Smith made his first independent film Clerks, Mewes was written in the script as his eponymous character alongside Smith playing Silent Bob. The duo would return in numerous films by Smith, called his ViewAskewniverse of interconnected films, including Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Clerks II, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot and Clerks III. He has also appeared in other films of Smith’s including Zack and Miri Make a Porno and Yoga Hosers.
