However, after Donovan sued the magazine The Face for libel, he lost a large chunk of his fan-base (namely the gay following) and his career pinnacle looked as though it had been reached.

He has since confessed to having had a cocaine addiction during the 1990s but getting married and becoming a father focussed him and after his appearance in 2006 on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here, Donovan's acting and musical career enjoyed a resurgence - he released Let It Be Me, his first album for 15 years, in 2009 and starred in the stage production of Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
