When he dropped out of college to serve in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, Jamey began playing gigs at bars in his hometown.

In 2000, he moved to Nashville to pursue a career in country music. There, he got a songwriting contract and ultimately signed to BNA Records as an artist in 2005. His first single, “The Dollar,” peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, and his career only went up from there. His 2008 single “In Color” peaked at No. 52 in the overall US charts, and his 2010 album The Guitar Song was nominated for a Grammy. Johnson also released a Hank Cochran tribute album in 2012 and a Christmas EP in 2014. In addition to all of his success in the studio, Jamey Johnson has gone on multiple successful tours.
