McVinnie has shared the stage with prominent musicians, among them Philip Glass, Tom Jenkinson, Angelique Kidjo and Nico Muhly. McVinnie is signed to Bedroom Community Records, where he performed the music of Muhly on his debut album, Cycles, which was released in 2013.
Five years later, James McVinnie signed with Orange Mountain Music to release music written by Glass. In 2019, McVinnie released his third full-length LP premiering Jenkinson’s scores. The album dropped under Warp Records in September of that year and was recorded at the prestigious Royal Festival Hall in the heart of downtown London.
Additionally, McVinnie has worked as Assistant Organist of Westminster Abbey and held other prominent positions at St. Paul’s Cathedral, St. Albans Cathedral and Clare College, located in Cambridge, which is also the institution where he studied organ.
