International fame came to Shimabukuro in 2006 after a video of one of his live performances went viral on YouTube. This led to an increase in sales of Jake Shimabukuro tickets as he began to collaborate with musicians like Jimmy Buffett and Yo-Yo Ma. 

His 2006 album Gently Weeps quickly hit the top spots on the Billboard World Music Charts after its release. He reached similar success with his 2009 album, Live. Shimabukuro reached the number one spot with the release of Peace Love Ukulele in 2011. Over the years, Shimabukuro's success has continued to grow with the release of albums like Nashville Sessions (2016), The Greatest Day (2018) and Trio (2020).
