Born in Winnipeg in 1981, she developed an interest in electronic and rock music at an early age. Iskwe rose to attention through her debut single “Nobody Knows,” which focused on human rights crises affecting indigenous women in Canada. The song earned a significant amount of exposure when it was used on the Netflix series, Between. Iskwe then released her eponymous debut album in 2013, which was nominated for a Western Canadian Music Award.
In 2017 the artist released her sophomore album The Fight Within, for which Iskwe received a nomination for both the SOCAN Songwriting Prize and Juno Award for Indigenous Music Album of the Year. The Fight Within won Iskwe a Western Canadian Music Award for Electronic/Dance Artist of the Year. She has since collaborated with a number of classical musicians including Mariel Gonzalez, Michael Shand and the FILMharmonic Orchestra.
