The first women’s gymnastics team for Iowa State was in the 1973-74 season, with the inaugural head coach being Char Christiansen. In their second year, Christiansen led the team to its first conference title in the Big Eight. Other coaches of note in the program include Amy Pyle. Pyle would lead the team in 2000 to its first Big 12 title as well as placing 8th overall in the NCAA Tournament.
