Discover an unforgettable evening of timeless compositions with Igor Levit tickets. Igor Levit is a Russian pianist whose fiery approach to classical music has won high praise from critics and audiences since he began to have success in major competitions and in 2008 the New York Times called him "one of the essential artists of his generation". He completed studies at Germany's Hannover Academy of Music, Theatre and Media in 2009 and went on to garner international attention with what critics called "dazzling" recitals. He was lauded for his choice of works for his debut recording 'Beethoven: The Late Piano Sonatas: Op. 101, 106, 109, 110, 111', which usually are attempted by more mature pianists. The album went to number 24 on Billboard's Classical Albums Chart in 2014 and won the BBC Music Magazine Newcomer of the Year Award, the Royal Philharmonic Society's Young Artist Award and the ECHO Klassik for Solo Recording of the Year.
His 'Bach, Beethoven, Rzewski' release with the Festival Heidelberger Frühling featured Bach's 'Goldberg Variations', Beethoven's 'Diabelli Variations' and Rzewski's 'The People United Will Never Be Defeated!'. It was named Recording of the Year and won the Instrumental Award at the 2016 Gramophone Classical Music Awards. He performed the Beethoven 'Sonata Cycle' at Wigmore Hall in London in 2017.
His 2017-8 season would see him make debuts with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestras and return engagements with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich. Following an appearance on the opening night of the BBC Proms, he debuted at the Salzburg Festival, had a residency at Germany's Rheingau Music Festival and embarked on a tour of Asia with the Bavarian State Orchestra under Kirill Petrenko. In January 2018 he received the Gilmore Artist Award from the Gilmore Festival in Michigan, USA. The £300,000 prize is awarded every four years to an international pianist and is regarded as the musical equivalent of the MacArthur Foundation genius grants. Whether it’s a grand symphony in a prestigious concert hall or a chamber music performance, there’s something all fans of classical music will enjoy.
