Idles is an English rock band that formed in 2009 after founding members Joe Talbot and Adam Devonshire met in college. In the band’s early days, they admit their experience was lacking and didn’t know what they were doing. Talbot and Devonshire eventually opened the Bat-Cave Night Club in Bristol where they met Guitarist Mark Bowen and released their first EP titled Welcome in 2012. Idles ticket sales began to heat up and by 2014 the band added Lee Kiernan and Jon Beavis. They began to pick up traction in the underground scene when they released their second EP, Meat and Meta in 2015.
By 2016 the band had a growing fan base and had finally figured out the sound they were shooting for. That year they released two singles titled “Well Done” and “Divide & Conquer.” These singles performed well in the underground scene and led to the band releasing their debut studio album Brutalism in March of 2017. The album received rave reviews from fans and critics alike. It received 4 stars from DIY Magazine and The Line of Best Fit website gave it a 9/10.
The band is now well on its way to superstardom. Their second studio album, Joy as an Act of Resistance was released in August 2018 and received even more praise. By 2019 the band was nominated for Best Breakthrough Act at the 2019 Brit Awards. They won the 2019 Kerran! Award for Best British Breakthrough Act along with several other accolades.
