Iceland National Team Soccer Tickets
Cheer on Iceland’s best soccer team when you get your Iceland soccer tickets today! Iceland’s soccer (also known as association football) team is remarkable for its successes in the FIFA World Cup, despite being a nation of only 368,000. Iceland’s football team is named Úrvalsdeild Karla, but its nickname is Strákamir okkar (Our Boys).
Iceland’s association football team dates back to 1912, but Úrvalsdeild didn’t join FIFA until 1947. Seven years later, in 1954, the team also joined UEFA. In 2018, Iceland became the smallest nation in history to qualify for the FIFA World Cup finals. They held their own against Argentina in the first match of the finals, finishing the game in a draw. They lost to Nigeria and Croatia afterward, disqualifying them for the cup. Their push for the top, however, was stunning. In UEFA, Iceland reached the European Football Championship quarter-finals in 2016.
In addition to Iceland’s FIFA finals and UEFA quarter-finals entries, it has received the Greenland Cup twice, in 1980 and 1984. It was the runner-up of the China Cup in 2017. Some of Iceland’s top goalscorers have included Kolbeinn Sigþórsson, Eiður Guðjohnsen, Gylfi Sigurðsson, Ríkharður Jónsson and Alfreð Finnbogason. Watch Úrvalsdeild’s tenacity in action when you get Iceland soccer tickets at TicketSmarter.
