They lost to Nigeria and Croatia afterward, disqualifying them for the cup. Their push for the top, however, was stunning. In addition to Iceland’s FIFA finals and UEFA quarter-finals entries, it has received the Greenland Cup twice, in 1980 and 1984. It was the runner-up of the China Cup in 2017. Some of Iceland’s top goalscorers have included Kolbeinn Sigþórsson, Eiður Guðjohnsen, Gylfi Sigurðsson, Ríkharður Jónsson and Alfreð Finnbogason.
