With a father employed by the United Nations, Jetton’s upbringing was multicultural, as she was born in the Philippines, raised in Italy and relocated to Hawaii. The mix of cultures during Jetton’s childhood as well as the popularity of reggae and island music in Hawaii converged to influence Hirie’s signature brand of reggae. Though Hirie is a seven-piece group, Jetton herself is the prime songwriter and tells many of her own personal stories over the bouncy groove established by the band.

Hirie’s 2013 debut was a strong initial showing by the group and shows supporting the album delighted those who held Hirie tickets. Hirie’s 2016 release Wandering Soul further established the group’s sound and featured collaborations with Nattali Rize, Trevor Hall and Nahko. Songs like “You Won’t Be Alone,” “Don’t Take My Ganja” and “Good Vibration (feat. Trevor Hall)” remain some of the group’s most popular songs to this day. Even as Hirie released their third album Dreamer in 2019, the band continued to push forward. In 2020, Hirie dropped Bonfire, a single born out of collaboration with successful music producer Paul Couture. With reggae grooves, a continuous stream of new songs and collaborations, and Jetton’s star-quality vocals, it seems that Hirie will only grow from here on out.
