The group initially performed as a duo but later added two other members. The other members have included bassist Ade Martin and drummer Amber Grimbergen.
The band was originally called Deers, but due to a potential lawsuit by a band named The Dears, the group changed their name in 2015 to Hinds, which means "female deer." Hinds' music has been compared to groups such as Velvet Underground, The Pastels and C86. The band has produced multiple music videos and singles, including their debut single "Demo" in 2014. Their first full-length album, Leave Me Alone, was released in 2016 and reached #47 on the UK charts. The LP followed that I Don't Run was released in 2018 and hit #77 in the UK. The album The Prettiest Curse came out in 2020
