Originally born in the UK, Harper and his parents moved to Perth, Australia in 1980. After unsuccessfully pursuing a musical career with various local bands, Harper self-released a solo live set titled Live At The Soup Kitchen in 1997 before signing to Full Moon Records in 2000. His debut studio album Glass On The Stepping Stone proved pivotal for Harper establishing him as rising star in the blues world and led to support slots touring with artists such as John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Little Feat, and Robert Cray.
Originally performing under the name Harper, in 2010 he started a collaboration with with the Detroit band Midwest Kind releasing three studio albums with them under the name Harper and Midwest Kind. Show Your Love, released in 2016 debuted at number nine and spent over six months in the in the Billboard Blues Charts.
