Born in Rauma in 1967, Lintu showed a gift for music as a boy. He trained in cello and piano at both the Turku Conservatory and the Sibelius Academy as a young man. Privately, Lintu was mentored by greats Eri Klas and Jorma Panula.
The rising musician gained his first serious recognition when in 1994 he won Bergen’s Nordic Conducting Competition. He then enjoyed his first professional post as the primary conductor of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, with whom he would rise to international acclaim. Lintu served as director of the Summer Sounds Festival in the early 2000s, then through the rest of the decade and into the 2010s served with the Tampere, Finnish Radio and Helsingborg Symphony Orchestras.
The conductor has also earned praise for his work with the Finnish National Opera and Ballet, of which he was made chief conductor in 2019. Lintu has conducted landmark recordings for the Naxos, Dacapo and Danacord labels, among many others.
