In the early ‘90s, the guitarist formed the Greg Koch and the Tone Controls blues-rock trio and went on to win five Wisconsin Area Music Awards with the group between 1993 and 1998. In 2017 he formed his most successful project, The Koch Marshall Trio. The band was promptly signed with the Mascot Label Group, through which they released their debut album Toby Arrives the following year. The Koch Marshall Trio received unanimous praise from critics, and in 2018 were nominated for a Grammy Award.
Koch has also been named one of the top ten unsung guitarists by Fender. He is renowned for his hybrid fingerpicking style referred to as “gristling,” and for songs that often feature a battle of guitar solos.
