The choir was established in 1883 and called the Berlin Philharmonic and Orchestral Society. The choir was reorganized and renamed the Kitchener Waterloo Philharmonic Choir in 1922 because the city of Berlin had changed its name to Kitchener Waterloo during World War I. The choir took on its current name in 2006.

The organization is comprised of four choirs, including the main adult choir, which has 100 voices, a chamber choir recruited from the adult choir, a youth choir and a children’s choir. The adult choir performs three times a year, the chamber choir twice each year and is part of the adult choir’s performances. The youth and children’s choirs annually perform several concerts.
