Goodnight, Texas first came together in 2010 through collaborations between Wolf and Vinocur. Wolf was working out of North Carolina at the time, and Vinocur was working out of San Francisco. The band takes its name from the small town in Texas that lies at the exact midpoint between the two.

In 2012 the band released their debut album A Long Life of Living through Tallest Man Records. The album received widespread praise from critics, earning the group comparisons to acts like The Punch Brothers, Elliott Smith and Bruce Springsteen. The growing exposure saw Goodnight, Texas perform at various sporting events and have their songs used in commercials and on podcasts.

In the years that followed, the band began giving celebrated performances alongside star rock group Metallica. Goodnight, Texas enjoyed viral success in 2020 when their song “The Railroad” saw use on Netflix’s hit series Tiger King.
