He made his performing debut with the Israel Philharmonic and the Jerusalem Symphony in 1981. His career took off in 1998 when he replaced Itzhak Perlman at a performance of the Bruch with the London Symphony Orchestra. The following year, Shaham won the Claremont Competition before attending Julliard and Columbia University. In 1990, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant before winning the Avery Fisher Prize in 2008.

Shaham is a regular guest with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Israel Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, San Franciso Symphony, and Ochestras de Paris. The violinist also has over two dozen solo and concerto albums including Paganni for Two (1994), The Fiddler of the Opera (1997), and Devil’s Dance (2000).
