Electronic music meets the sounds of soul with Geographer tickets. Geographer is a synth-pop band from San Francisco created by Mike Deni in 2007. The band is known for its multi-layered, dreamlike electronic sound. The idea for the band came to Deni after he found an abandoned synthesizer lying on the street. Deni began touring the San Francisco open mic circuit and met future bandmates Nathan Blaz and Brian Ostreicher. In 2008 the group released its debut album Innocent Ghosts, which brought Geographer national attention when it was listed as part of Spin Magazine’s list of hot undiscovered bands.
The exposure saw Geographer sign to Tricycle Records in 2009, through which they released their EP Animal Shapes. They toured widely, following a Best of New Artists Award in San Francisco Weekly, making notable appearances at the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival and the Noise Pop Festival. They frequently tour alongside the bands Stars and Miniature Tigers. Geographer’s first headlining tour came in 2013 when they sold out most of the tour’s venues. The group is known for looping various effects in real time at their live performances, gaining praise in particular for their performance at the 2015 South by Southwest Festival.
