Garrison was born in Hernando, Miss. She recorded her first album, Pinwheels, right after graduating from high school. She went to college at Ole Miss for a little over a year and played drums for the local band The Living Hand, where she connected with Nelson Hubbard and Clay Jones. She still collaborates frequently with Hubbard.
