His family emigrated to Canada when he was 17 years old where he eventually studied political science in Montreal before moving to Paris to study drama at the Cours Florent in 1992.
Elmaleh debuted his autobiographical one-man show, Decalages, in 1997 which traced his journey from Morocco to Canada and gained him recognition before exploding even further onto the scene with his follow-up show, L’autre c’est moi, in 2005. The show was heavily focused on improv and crowd interaction, launching his famous stand-up act that he is now known for around the world after performing the show on Broadway in New York City. He was voted TF1’s funniest man of the year in 2007 and has since performed at major comedy events such as Montreal’s Just for Laughs Festival.
