The latter formed the band in 2007 while at the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University. Though classically trained in the French horn, Perlick-Molinari wanted to venture into electronic music as he felt the classical music scene was stifling.
At the end of 2007, the Perlick-Molinari brothers released their self-titled demo, followed by their first full-length album The Infinite Music of French Horn Rebellion in 2011. French Horn Rebellion rose to fame following the success of fellow local band MGMT, with whom the duo had collaborated heavily. David Perlick-Molinari produced MGMT’s hit EP Time to Pretend, and French Horn Rebellion gained significant exposure following the EP’s runaway success.
In the mid-2010s French Horn Rebellion released their sophomore album Next Jack Swing Pt. 1 and their EP Foolin’ Around, which were critically acclaimed for their blend of electronic and classic rock elements. They have since toured widely with artists including Two Door Cinema Club, Hot Chip and Of Montreal.
