Born in Deming in 1990, Ray developed a passion for country music by listening to artists like Freddy Fender and to the rancheras popular in the local area. For a number of years in the late 2000s and early 2010s, he served as a police officer in Las Cruces. He performed at various small venues on weekends, garnering a devoted regional following and enjoying modest success on the Texas country charts. In 2017 he retired from police work to pursue a full-time career in music.
The following year, Ray released his debut EP Different Kind of Country and began regularly opening for singer-songwriter Ashley McBride. He signed to the BBR Music Group in 2021, through which he released his singles “Streetlights” and “Country’d Look Good on You.” The latter single reached within the top forty on Billboard’s Country Airplay charts, greatly increasing the artist’s exposure.
