Florida’s woman’s gymnastics began in 1973 as one of the first athletics programs for women. The women first competed in the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) from 1971 to 1982. Ernestine was the coach from 1980 to 1992 and led the Gators to the AIAW National Championship in gymnastics in 1982, the last year of the AIAW. The NCAA began overseeing athletics for women in 1982.
